Camp Wilderness Sunrise

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, February 1-10, 2013, is the longest-running event of its kind in the Eastern United States. This year’s theme is “Under the Sea.” The 10-day festival includes sports, dances, performances, two parades and two sets of fireworks above the world-famous ice palace.

We went a couple years ago and the kids were in complete awe of the ice palace! You can climb around inside and it’s really just spectacular. Definitely a great way to spend a winter day. Afterwards, I suggest a delicious Mexican dinner at Casa del Sol in Saranac Lake (I recommend the chili con queso app–request all flour chips, they’re homemade!) before heading back to the Camp to cozy up in front of the fireplace.
